FIRST was selected to assist the NY / NJ Super Bowl Host Committee with hospitality events and sponsorship activation for a period of 20 months culminating in Media Party, the largest hosted event of Super Bowl week. The project began a year prior finding a venue in New York City that would accommodate 3,500-5,000 members of the global media in January.
Chelsea Piers in New York, with views over the Hudson River and New Jersey, was selected as the venue. The challenge was clear: use multiple spaces at the Piers while keeping guests warm, and the event cohesive and fun. The parking lot of Pier 60 was transformed into an indoor venue by developing a heating and infrastructure plan, and merged with two surrounding environments: the indoor venue Pier 60 and Bowlmor. As a result, three distinct environments were created, but together formed an enormous, connected experience for guests.
To celebrate the region and the diverse cultural offerings, local restaurants were invited to give out signature dishes in a downtown food festival atmosphere. To distinguish the areas of the party, an upscale lounge with bespoke décor was created inside and a lively, party atmosphere was featured inside Bowlmor Lanes. State sponsors and celebrity chefs handed out local spirits and signature cocktails. To top things off, two main stages featuring eleven different performances from New York and New Jersey artists kept the crowds entertained, including a Broadway showcase with Constantine Maroulis, singer Andra Day, The Lone Bellow, and DJ Questlove. With 35 FIRST team members onsite, the event was supported by over 100 Super Bowl Host Committee volunteers and 60 security personnel, along with the NYC Fire and Police departments.
“Leaves one breathless”
The transformation of that space into the truly magnificent setting that you created leaves one breathless. I was getting so many compliments last night and I said to all that I was only smart enough to surround myself with the best event team that I could find. You guys are the ones who deserve all the compliments.
